About Me

I'm a full-time writer, baby boomer and advocate for the working homeless. I'm also a former journalist and photojournalist. I've started and owned my own newspaper, and have worked for some of the top media companies in America - including Gannett, Media General and Landmark.

I'm currently a part-time associate editor at Airstream Life Magazine, a contributing writer at Motivation Magazine, and a blogger for Change.org. I also free-lance for a variety of magazines, blogs and businesses.

I've been mentioned or contributed to more than a dozen books, including "Wisdom of Our Fathers, Letters From Daughters and Sons," by the late vice-president of NBC News, Tim Russert. Best-selling author Pam Slim wrote about me in her book, "Escape from the Cubicle Jungle," and my story about my dog and my life was a chapter in a 2010 Penguin Published book called "Every Good Dog Has a Gift."

In 2009 I spoke at TED Global 2009 in Oxford about the working homeless. TED changed my life and I plan to host a TEDx event in 2011.

An avid camper and outdoorswoman I love traveling and do as much of it as possible in the spring and fall with my Rottweiler.

I have a dry sense of humor, tolerate fools lightly, and know how to laugh at myself although I'm not so inclined to appreciate others who do. But I manage. I loathe trolls and naysayers, love chocolate doughnuts and think the world would be a much better place if we didn't have political parties, but human causes.

I hope you enjoy this blog and realize it's here primarily to help writers, impress editors and sell a few books along the way so I can continue to do what I love - which is write.
